In original slipcase. Edition limited to 600 numbered copies, this is Number 185. With contributions by W. C. Sturtevant, C. E. Raven, R.A. Skelton, and Louis B. Wright. Preface by Edward Croft-Murray. The definitive work on the drawings and watercolors of John White, one of the officers of the first British colony in North America. During his time at Roanoke Island, he produced a series of watercolors that document the culture of the North Carolina Algonquian Indians and the local flora and fauna. White's watercolors constitute the only original representations of a Native American society of the Eastern seaboard made prior to the 19th century, and are a primary source for knowledge of American Indian culture of the period. The surviving original paintings are now in the print room of the British Museum. Additional postage will be required for international shipping.
